Counselling South West London and Therapy Putney
Hi, and welcome. I hope this is were your journey of personal development begins. I want you to feel safe here. I want this to be a place were you can feel there is no pressure to do anything but simply to be. Yes that is a big relief. How often in your life have you felt this external and internal pressure to get to this other place, were everything will be fine.
Well here you can let go for a while and I can help you to think about how you feel about things in general and what changes you might want to make. It can be a great relief just to express how you feel about things. To gather your thoughts and move into a more grounded place for yourself. One does first need to feel grounded before one can contemplate changes.
So let go and lets see how I can help you. I like to begin working with someone by doing a initial session. So from getting a feel for a how i work through my site, you can then meet me in person. I do usually have a chat on the phone, which I feel does help. So at the initial session you can get a feel of me, to see if you could work with me. I like to work in sessions of 6 or 8. Then we review, see were you are. Then decide if another six session is needed. I like getting things done in bite chunks. By working in this short term way it also allows to us to decide together what you want to work in a more specific way.
In the initial session we decide this together. Is might be that you want to work on your self-esteem or maybe on your assertiveness. You might feel something is stopping you from entering a relationship. In the way that I work we can set a clear goal on what you want to achieve in your 6, 8 or 12 sessions. I feel this keeps us both on our toes.
In the short term focused work that I do, I use a lot of theoretical approaches from cognitive analytic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. I also incorporate life and executive coaching skills. I will also use any theoretical approach which I feel will benefit you in getting you were you want to be. I am very keen on the combining the cognitive behavioral (CBT), cognitive analytical (CAT) and the person centered approach.
I think of therapy as you providing yourself with a space in your life. A space to sit back with an objective and non-judgemental counsellor and allow yourself to explore what is going on for you.
I am integrative in my approach which means I am not influenced by any one psychological approach, rather I work with the person I have infront of me.
I am aware of many psychological approaches and principles that can enhance psychological development. Each person I see is unique so my approach will be tailored to each person.
My core thinking as a counsellor & psychotherapist is very much guided by empathy and unconditional positve regard. I also believe challenging is an important part of a positve therapeutic outcome.
I also adhere to the belief that all humans have the inherant capacity to grow into mature individuals capable of leading happy lives.
At some point you might have put your emotional growth on hold. Another way of seeing counselling & psychotherapy is that you are choosing to resume your emotional growth so that it reaches a point were you feel that you can deal with everyday life in a way that makes you feel confident and at ease.
